Background

The 2025 Special Survey of GALAXY was planned to meet legal and technical requirements while also updating the vessel’s external identity. In addition to the required survey scope, a complete rebranding painting job was done to match the vessel’s appearance with new brand guidelines. The goal was to make sure the vessel’s visual presentation reflected the quality and professionalism of its operations. This was done smoothly within the overall survey program.

Defining the Rebranding Painting Scope

The rebranding painting job was the main visual aspect of the project and included thorough blasting and painting work across the vessel. Instead of treating this as a routine coating task, the scope aimed for visual consistency, a refined finish, and uniform colour application in line with the new brand identity. Planning focused on surface preparation standards, the order of painting stages, and inspection points to achieve the desired look.

Execution and Coordination

Execution followed a structured approach. Blasting, surface preparation, and painting were done in a controlled sequence. This allowed each stage to be finished to the required standard before moving on. At the same time, other Special Survey activities took place, including servicing and maintenance of the propeller shaft, inspecting and cleaning of coolers, and overhauling valves, pumps, motors, and alternators. Close coordination ensured these activities continued smoothly without affecting completed paintwork.

Alignment With Other Survey Works

Steel and piping renewal work, along with various fabrication and related activities, were done as part of the overall survey scope. These tasks were planned and sequenced to fit with the rebranding painting program. This ensured that structural and system upgrades enhanced the vessel’s refreshed appearance and did not compromise the quality of the finish.

Outcome

Upon completion, GALAXY came out of the Special Survey with a cohesive and refreshed external identity. The rebranding painting job provided a clean, consistent, and professional look, while the additional mechanical, structural, and system work made sure the vessel was fully compliant and operational. Together, these efforts resulted in a vessel that was both technically sound and visually aligned with its updated brand positioning.

Conclusion

This project showed how a Special Survey can be effectively used for vessel rebranding when painting is treated as a planned program. By combining blasting and painting with key mechanical, structural, and fabrication work in a coordinated way, the project achieved a lasting visual improvement without adding unnecessary complexity to execution.
